Run each test on yourself as you read. Every "no" is a leak — and every leak has a fix, whether you do it yourself or hand it over.
01 · Getting found
Google ranking (SEO)
Where you appear when someone searches for what you do. Google decides this from your page titles, headings and how clearly your site says who you help.
10-second test
Search "[your trade] [your town]". Are you anywhere on page one — past the ads?
If not: you're invisible to people actively looking to buy today. They'll book whoever they can find — not the best, the findable.
02 · The map
Google Business Profile & Maps
The free map card with your hours, photos and reviews. It sits above the normal results for "near me" searches — the single biggest source of local enquiries.
10-second test
Search your business name. Is there a map card on the right with reviews and a "Directions" button?
If not: you're missing the one result that outranks everything — and it's completely free to claim.
03 · First impression
Page speed
How fast your site actually appears on a phone over mobile data. Heavy images and sliders quietly drag it out to several seconds.
10-second test
Run your web address through pagespeed.web.dev (free, Google's own). Is your mobile score in the red?
If it's slow: over half of mobile visitors leave a page that takes more than three seconds — and they leave silently. It's also a Google ranking factor.
04 · Where they actually are
Mobile-readiness
Most people meet your business on a phone first. If it was built for a desktop screen, it fights them on a small one.
10-second test
Open your own site on your phone. Can you read it and tap the main button without pinching or zooming?
If it's fiddly: the majority of your visitors are the ones having the worst experience — and they're one tap from leaving.
05 · The deciding moment
Reviews & trust
Before booking, people compare two or three of you and pick the one that feels safest. Reviews on Google are where that decision usually happens.
10-second test
Search your business name. Do Google reviews show up — and are there enough to reassure a stranger?
If not: even people who find you have nothing tipping them your way at the exact moment they choose.
06 · The overlooked one
Your social share preview
How your link looks when someone shares it — on WhatsApp, Facebook, a text. A proper card with your title and image, or a bare, broken-looking URL.
10-second test
Paste your web address into a WhatsApp message to yourself. Does a tidy card with a title and image appear?
If it's bare: every time someone recommends you, the link looks untrustworthy — and fewer people click it.
